Another treatment for the removal facial spider veins includes electrodesiccation. Electrodessication is the process of using a weak electric current to swell and close the spider vein. This is done through a fine needle gently inserted superficially into the skin. The needle is touched to the walls of the vein as the weak current is initiated. The vein is then sealed off making blood unable to flow through and feed the vein. The vein then collapses, dies and is reabsorbed by the body.
Electrodessication can be done on both the face and legs. However it is a more successful treatment for facial spider veins. While this treatment can be fast and effective it does have some disadvantages. This method of facial vein removal can be painful. As healing occurs scabs may form over the insertion site of the needle. Occasionally the damage done to the skin by the weakened electrical current can lead to scars or tiny depressions in the skin that resemble enlarged pores. |
