Spider veins are those distractively small blue, red or purplish lines on the face or legs that are difficult to cover up. Caused by several different reasons such as sun damage, trauma, certain medications or genetics, these veins while having so significant symptoms are an embarrassing distraction for many. Fortunately they can be treated relatively easily.
One of the most popular and effective ways to treat this issue is with laser. Laser vein removal is considered the gold standard for eliminating small spider veins. Several different aesthetic lasers are available to achieve this such as the pulse dye, long pulse alexandrite, diode, Nd: Yag and IPL (intense pulsed light). Each of these lasers utilizes a wavelength that targets the color in blood to successfully heat the vein with a series of pulses. The as the lining of the vein absorbs the heat, the thermal reaction that begins causes the inside of the vein to swell and the blood is pushed out. Once the blood is not available to “feed” the vein, the body breaks down the vessel making it disappear. It can often take 4-6 weeks for the actual results to be seen after a treatment. 2-6 sessions are usually required for a successful outcome.
Successful removal of veins with laser can be done as a single treatment regime or as a complement to sclerotherapy for those small spider veins. A consultation with a dermatologist or vein specialist can help to determine if laser vein removal is the correct treatment for you. |
